There will come a time in your dogs life when a medical procedure or injury requires your dog to limit his/her activities and stay put in order to heal and recover. The best and safest place for that is a crate. Your veterinarian may even order your dog to be on crate rest or has to keep your dog at the clinic for further observation where your dog will have to stay in a crate. If your dog has never been familiarized with being in a crate, that may cause additional stress which can have negative effects for the healing process. Hence it is beneficial to get your dog used to being in a crate early on before it will ever be absolutely crucial for your dog to stay in a crate. It will also not be feasible for you to watch your dog around the clock while he/she is recovering because of work/household chores/having to run errands/sleeping and so on, which advocates for putting your dog in a safe place like a crate giving you peace of mind. Having your familiarized with being in a crate can take a lot of stress off of the healing process, prevent reinjury, making sure your dog is safe and create a place for calmness.
