Y’all have probably seen and heard of it a million times: DO NOT LEAVE YOUR DOG IN A HOT CAR. This is absolutely true and legit, but what are you going to do when you are on a road trip with your dog, and you need to use the restroom at a gas station? Short answer: you leave the car running and lock your vehicle. I know of the concerns about failing air conditioning or the car shutting off out of the blue; hence, I want to present to you the idea of putting a separate temperature-sensing device in your vehicle to monitor the conditions inside. There are currently 3 devices on the market that do not require WiFi and can run off its own internal battery. These are Waggle, MarCell and Necto. Personally, I own the last two. The first one that I bought was the MarCell a couple of years ago. This device will monitor the temperature and humidity constantly and alert you (email & txt message) when the temperature is out of your range setting. It is pretty trusty, and the internal battery lasts for about 3–4 days. It requires a subscription to use either Verizon or AT&T, which is about $100 a year, and an App for your phone. Unfortunately, you can only get two updates on the temperature and humidity readings; any extra updates require an additional purchase.
Recently, I wanted something where I could get instant updates on the temperature and humidity. While looking around on Amazon, I came across the Necto device. Necto offers instant updates on temperature/humidity/power outage, alerts via email and text message, and uses T-Mobile and (!!!) AT&T service for just the purchase price on Amazon for two years (Wooow). Unfortunately, since the device is still pretty new, they don’t offer an App yet, so for temperature readings, you need to log on to their website. Due to their instant updates, the battery on the device doesn’t last very long (36 hours), and it is very selective about its power source. It won’t charge well unless you use the manufacture's power cord and outlet plug. Nevertheless, I bought two of these devices, one for my kennel building and one for my truck, and I like them so far. The third option is Waggle. Waggle also offers instant updates but requires a very pricey subscription. The newest version of the Waggle even shows the temperature on a little LED display in the front. After comparing prices, I found that Necto would be the better option with its one-and-done price. If you are traveling with your dog at any time, whether on a road trip or in an RV, I highly recommend that you invest in one of these temperature-sensing devices that don’t require WiFi.
