Hey, Have You Heard Yet? There's Some Free Advice Here!

Ways to slow down your dog’s eating pace:

9/21/2023

Does your dog think that eating food is a competition and thinks like Ricky Bobby “If you are not first, you are last”? Meanwhile you are watching your dog with justified worry inhaling his/her food and having saved a how-to guide for the Heimlich maneuver on your phone in case things go down?
I got some ideas for you to slow down your dog’s eating habits:
1) You can add some water to your dog’s kibble (kinda like making a bowl of cereal) which can slow down your dog’s eating
2) You can get one of those slow feeder bowls. But be aware that some dogs are quite smarty pants and figure out that, if they grab the bowl and toss it, they can eat the kibble super fast off the floor
3) Use a food dispensing toy like the Bob-a-Lot to feed your dog. The food dispensing toy will only dispense a few pieces of food at a time which can slow down your dog. The thing I love about the Bob-a-Lot is, that you can adjust the size of the little dispensing window to the size of the kibble, meaning you can make it very easy for the food to fall out or more difficult and entertain your dog for a longer time
4) You can stuff toys like a Kong with moistened kibble and freeze it, then serve the frozen Kong. As it thaws out, more and more kibble will fall out
5) You can use those snuffle mats that are made out felt to make your seek out the kibble pieces between the felt strips. Again, be aware that some dogs are smarty pants and figure out that, if they are grabbing the mat and shake it, they can get to the food faster

Feel free to share your ideas to slow down your dog’s competitive eating.
